Movie Alert. Movie Alert.I just saw The Orphanage, a Spanish film that was produced by Guillermo Del Toro, the genius behind Pan’s Labyrinth. The movie is about a haunted house that’s filled with the ghosts of teriffying children. It works well as a horror movie, but it is also very intelligent and works on several levels.I’d give the movie a 7.5 out of 10, a very high mark on my scale. Towards the middle, I was starting to wonder how it was all going to tie together, but the last fifteen minutes do a brilliant job of making sense out of everything. In fact, it’s a movie whose splendor grows as you reflect upon it.I can’t wait to see more films by this Mexican clique of filmmakers. They are fulfilling the Horror legacy that M. Night Shayamalan was supposed to achieve, but never quite mastered. This movie gets the job done.
